Programme Overview

The Building Construction Technology programme equips learners with foundational and advanced skills in masonry, carpentry, concrete work and construction site management.

The programme combines classroom instruction with intensive workshop and site-based practice, so that students can set out, build, finish and maintain structures to accepted standards. Project work and industrial attachment place learners on real sites alongside experienced tradespeople.

Graduates are prepared for employment with construction firms and contractors, or for self-employment in the building trades.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following admission requirements:

Academic Qualifications

Six (6) credit passes (A-D or A1-D7).

Core Subjects

Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies.

Elective Subjects

Three (3) relevant elective subjects.

Mature Applicants

Applicants aged 25 years and above may be considered under the Mature Applicants category.

Proof of Age

Applicants must provide acceptable proof of age.

Work Experience

Applicants must possess at least two (2) years of relevant work experience.

Entrance Assessment

Applicants must successfully complete any required entrance assessment.

Practical Training

Practical training is central to the programme. Students gain hands-on experience through:

  • Masonry and blocklaying workshop practice
  • Concrete mixing, casting and curing exercises
  • Formwork and carpentry projects
  • Site setting-out and levelling exercises
  • Building drawing and estimation tasks
  • Site visits and field demonstrations
  • Industrial attachment with construction firms and contractors

These experiences build the workmanship, site awareness and confidence the construction industry expects.

Structure

Year 1 covers foundation knowledge and supervised workshop practice. Year 2 covers advanced practice, project work and industrial attachment.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive the National Proficiency I and II Certificate in Building Construction Technology, accredited by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) under the Ghana TVET Service (GTVET).

How to Apply

  1. Apply Through CSSPS

    Admissions to Asankare Technical Institute are primarily conducted through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) managed by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

  2. Meet the Admission Requirements

    Applicants are considered for admission based on their performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E.) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

  3. Check Your Placement

    Successful applicants are placed by the Ghana Education Service (GES). Placement results are published through the official CSSPS platform and displayed on the school's notice board. Admission letters provide all the information required to complete enrolment.

Foreign and Private Applicants

Foreign students and private candidates may apply directly to Asankare Technical Institute and may be required to sit for an internal entrance examination.

Transfer Applicants

Students wishing to transfer from another technical or senior high institution should contact the school administration for guidance on eligibility requirements and transfer procedures.
